The story

Rudraksha means “the tears of Rudra”. Legend says the first rudraksha trees grew from the tears Lord Shiva shed after a long meditation for the good of the world. For centuries, sadhus and devotees have worn rudraksha to stay close to Shiva. This design adds a little sparkle, so it is easy to wear every day.

Who can wear it

Anyone, of any rashi, age or gender. Rudraksha has no restrictions on who may wear it. The sparkly look makes it a popular gift for young people and for festivals.

How to wear

• Best first worn on a Monday, Lord Shiva’s day.
• Rinse in clean water, light a diya, and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” 9 or 108 times.
• Usually worn on the right wrist.

Care

• Remove before bathing or swimming; keep away from soap and perfume.
• The crystal-glass beads can chip, so avoid knocking it on hard surfaces.
• Wipe with a dry cloth. A drop of oil on the rudraksha beads once a month keeps them healthy.
